Return of the One-Eyed

Well, Puppies, despite applications, reference checks, and home visits, sometimes we end up with a bad match and the dog we thought was in a happy home returns to rescue. While Codey and Dawkin were off at the meet & greet this weekend, Maximus came back to our home. Here he is trying to hide behind Ananya, but I convinced him to let me take pictures for educational purposes.

Here is a shot of Maximus and myself at the end of March before he was adopted. Note his handsome, insulating, silver and white coat.

Here is a shot of us now. That is right, they shaved him. These people failed to mention on their application that they wanted a dog who would obey orders immediately and without any training. They also wanted a dog who would sit quietly while a toddler poked him in the ears, eyes, nose, and mouth. The toddler is lucky Maximus is too nice of a dog to bite because that probably would have pushed me to the edge. I think a Siberian Husky is not the breed they want. Maximus is understandably confused about moving around, and he will have to wait all summer for his fur to return. I am sure you all know that our fur protects us in the summer from the heat and sunlight, not to mention bugs, irritating plants, and the teeth of our rough housing foster siblings. Shaving does not make us cooler, it makes us vulnerable. One thing these people did right is returning Maximus to us so we can find a family who appreciates a well-behaved, friendly Sibe.

Don't you worry one little bit Maximus! Good things come to those who wait. We'll find you a loving home. In the meantime, Meeka and I (maybe not Shyla cause you may not appreciate her red hair) are willing to tolerate more frequent brushings so that we can send you our fur to use in the meantime.

Princess and Amy will gladly donate unused fur for you. I feel really bad for you, but am glad you are safe back in a Mapaw home and not with these idiot people.

Maxi-moose, we still love you and this just means that you would fit in at our house even more, cuz we seem to need white doggies at our house. Well, Guinness isn't so sure of that, but Shiloh & Misty are! Our mommy knows what a great guy you are - she remembers helping to bring you to Mike & Carrie's house the first time - you helped mommy sprain her ankle!!! Haroo! Lots of love and licks from all of us.

Ok, I had a bad reaction to the shaved picture. Imagine a high pitched intake of breath, as in SHOCK, that humans are so stupid as to SHAVE A HUSKY! Why, oh why, do they think they are helping?!?!

Well, one thing is right though, they brought you back. They could have dumped you in a shelter, or worse. I know you will find a new furever home when the time is right, and it will finally be the LAST home you will ever have, because whoever they are will be the ones to love you for the rest of your life! In the mean time, I can say I sort of know how you feel after losing most of my fur cuz I am hypothyroid. I would volunteer to send you some of mine, but I'm waiting for it to grow back myself. I can send you some of Sam's though. You two are the same color.

Be patient sweet Maximus, you will find that perfect home one of these days, and until then, at least you have a fantastic foster home!

Poor Maximus! How could they do that to you? Those people obviously don't know much about huskies. Its a good thing that they brought you back. One day soon the perfect family will come along and give you the home you deserve. Hang in there big guy! Belly Rubs to all you MaPaw Huskies! Tasha & Eva

Dear Max,
I still think you are a VERY handsome, sweet Siberian and that one day you will find the right home. For now, we are all so thankful to the wonderful people at MaPaw and especially your foster parents for taking you in where you are SAFE and LOVED and APPRECIATED!!!
Lots of love,

Hang in there Mr. Max. These pictures made your first foster mommy almost cry. You are so BEAUTIFUL and for someone to do this to you is a tragedy. The only good thing about it is you are back with MaPaw and Magnum's pack! I'm sure your fur will grow back in better than ever!

Echo - Thank you for your willingness to sacrifice yourself. I appreciate the support.

Tim - Thank you for the offer. I don't mean to be rude, but I don't want to wear little old lady fur. I'm a young man.

G&S's Mom - I remember helping you sprain your ankle. That was fun; we should do it again sometime.

Holly - I am sorry you are shedding too much. I hope the medicine helps soon. I guess we will both be waiting for fur this summer.

T&E - They said they knew Huskies, but obviously they were mistaken. Thanks for the encouragement.

Sitka - Me too. Sadly we can do nothing but wait.

Lee & Amici - It is impossible to imagine why anyone would not want me.

Ao4 - You're just being nice. I've seen the pictures, but thanks anyway. I am glad to be back here where people love me.

Kapp Pack - Don't cry first foster mom, my gorgeous fur will return and my current foster parents will be sure to keep me safe in the meantime.

Such a shame to hear stories like that. What do they say about the best laid plans? Maximus is lucky to have a foster home to return to. He's lucky to have all of you.

Things happen for a reason and we're glad this has brought him back to you where he is safe and will be cared for the best way possible. Sometimes I just don't get people.

Ferndoggle - You are right about plans, but I am glad to be back here.

Peanut - I feel the same way, but my foster parents tell me biting wouldn't have helped.

Brat Pack - What a nice way to think of it. Some people don't make sense.

Egads. People suck. Well, people except for my people and you people.

Poor Maximus and his coat. I think after all these learning experiences he should be renamed Odin - who lost an eye for knowledge!

Unreal, this made our lady cry pretty hard! Humans are so stupid, why oh why, would they shave you like that?! Thank Dog for MaPaw! If we lived closer we would come & get you ourselves, the lady says you are very far away from Illinois though. Make sure to stay in the shade for awhile. And we think you still look VERY handsome!

Oh, that's so sad, but sometimes it does happen. HTH had someone adopted a 1 year old from and return him the next day because "he was too big". He didn't grow that much overnight, so I don't know what they meant by that.

I'm glad you are back at Magnum's house!

Ume Tyan - Nice to meet you!

Nanook - You really know your mythology. I'll have to look around for some valkries to help me create my own Valhall, then maybe I can change my name.

M&M - Thank you for the fur thoughts. I'll be staying in the AC this summer.

Indy - Wow. I think you win the worst reason to return a dog contest.

Wow...that is absolutely unbelievable. I am so sorry that those stupid humans shaved your coat...my Mom is so sad to see that. Humans need to do their research before we adopt them...especially when it comes to rescues. We don't need any more trauma that what we've already been through!

I'm glad you're in a safe and happy place. I know you'll find a wonderful furever home!

Marls

eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!

I'll tell the human woman that he's back so she can post him on the gimpydog blog.

Sigh, not only is he gimpy, but he's funny looking, so hopefully someone with some brains will see his inner beauty and give him a loving home with unconditional love.
